Taveuni Station Officer, Inspector Kolinio Vunaki confirmed a suspect was taken to the station for questioning.

"We have questioned a suspect but we will not state at this time what her age is because she is still being interviewed," Inspector Vunaki said.

A 48-year-old woman found the body lying outside her house about 6am on Sunday morning.

Taveuni sub-divisional Medical Officer Doctor Hlathein Thein said part of the baby's skin had peeled when the body was brought into the hospital by police.

He said the body had turned blackish in colour which meant it had been lying in the compound for more than 24 hours.

The baby was born at full term.
