Education Ministry director exams Salote Rabuka said high education was essential for any country to be able to achieve a sustainable level of economic and social development.
She said there was a need to safeguard the interests of the nation and individuals in Fiji, including higher education providers, in their investment in education.
Mrs Rabuka said there was a need for legislative and quality assurance frameworks in the regulation of the higher education sector to address the serious influences of globalisation, including the commercialisation of knowledge and the need to ensure quality education.
