This was after his vehicle was involved in a minor accident on the junction of Malcolm Street and McGregor Road in Suva.

"This is a personal attack. There are people in the police force who are not happy with the military and this is evident in the treatment I received. The military will be involved but is waiting until I fully recover.

"They knew me, they knew it was my car and they chased me like I was some kind of bank robber. I had a similar incident some time ago where I had a minor accident with a taxi. The taxi driver reported it to the police. I arranged to meet the driver and paid $180 in damages," said Cpt Tuiteci.

He denied being under the influence of alcohol, saying police officers did not conduct a breathalyser test to confirm he was drunk driving.

Police public relations officer Ema Mua said the allegations were serious, adding it would clear some air if evidence was provided that some sectors of the police force were against the military.

"There is a procedure to follow when you have a complaint to make rather than having the media highlight grievances. Our officers were doing their work. I believe Cpt Tuiteci was resisting arrest and the officers acted accordingly," she said.
