Looming strike on State agenda

The unions - the Fijian Teachers Association, the Viti National Union of Taukei Workers and the Public Employees Union - are demanding the restoration of their five per cent pay cut among other things.

A failure by the State to meet the demands of these unions will see more than 4000 teachers walk off their jobs just two weeks ahead of the crucial external class eight examinations.

Interim Cabinet is also expected to discuss the ongoing nurses' strike, which entered its sixth day today and which is already taking a toll on many who are manning hospitals and nursing stations across the country
