Vendors turned up in numbers to earn extra cash on a public holiday.

Rosa Josephine, 28, said staying at home on a public holiday doing nothing was boring to her.

"I rather spend my time selling my vegetables outside the market and earn some cash from it," she said.

"Sales are going good today ... it seems like a normal weekday.

"People have been coming in from the early morning and I am sure of reaching my target of close to $200 by the end of the day," said Ms Josephine, of Tamavua-i-wai, said.

Ella Yuen, 12, arrived there at 7am to sell vegetables.

"It has been little busy and yes people have been coming to buy vegetables," she said.

"I was surprised to see that vendors were out in numbers on public holiday. Even though we had arrived in town for some other reason, we are going home carrying the market goodies with us," said Sumeeta Prakash of Samabula.
