The New Zealand Immigration department announced three new appointments to their Pacific Division branches in Samoa, Tonga and Fiji yesterday.
Two of those appointments have been given to a Samoan and a Tongan.
Mr Lauano Ati Ilaoa (for Apia), Mr Aminiasi Ikamafana Tameifuna (for Nuku’alofa), and Mr Michael Carley (for Suva), were last week officially welcomed into their new roles by Service International Group Manager Mr Tofilau Kerupi Tavita.
“As part of the Departments commitment to improving our business in the Pacific, we identified the need to appoint people at the top who can project the value New Zealand places on its relationship with the Pacific, while protecting and promoting New Zealand’s interest’s and keeping those at the forefront,” said Mr Tavita in a statement.
"All three appointees have been in the public service both in New Zealand and in the Pacific for a large part of their careers, giving them a wealth of experience and knowledge, and the networks to be effective in their new role," he continued.
“Branch Managers’ are now expected to lead the delivery of excellent customer services, while establishing useful networks and relationships with Pacific stakeholders that benefit both New Zealand and Pacific states.”
Lauano was a well known media personality in Samoa before embarking on a successful public service career in New Zealand. He now returns to the top New Zealand immigration job in Samoa.
