Fiji’s Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase says he will have to seek legal advice on who qualifies to become the Leader of Opposition.

Qarase said this to Legend Radio after the Fiji Labour Party accepted his invitation to join a multi party Cabinet yesterday.

"That’s the big issue now. Who will be in the Opposition?

"I think the lawyers are the best to advice on that one.

"But that’s another complication in the provision relating to the multi party Cabinet issue. I don’t think there was a lot of attention focused on that when the Constitution was being drafted, "he said.

Qarase has offered the FLP seven Cabinet portfolios.

However, Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry said according to their calculations the party is entitled to eight Cabinet positions and he has raised the matter with Qarase.

The two leaders are also discussing Labour’s request to include the United People’s Party in the multi party Cabinet.

Chaudhry has until Monday to submit a list of 12 names to the Prime Minister.

The Cabinet Ministers including ten from the Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua and the two independents will be sworn in on Tuesday.
