Bollywood awards in the Caribbean

For the first time Trinidad will play host to the annual Bollywood awards based on the poll conducted among non-resident Indians.

Box-office hits including Black, Sarkar , Salaam Namaste , No Entry and Page 3 will vie for top honours at the awards.

Leading the pack in the list on nominations is mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Black’ which has been nominated in ten categories including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress.

Paheli , which pairs Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee is second with six nominations, followed by another Bachchan starrer ‘Sarkar’, which has five nominations.

Besides Big B, the nominees in the Best Actor category are SRK (‘Paheli’), Saif Ali Khan ( Parineeta ), Anupam Kher
(Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara ) and Akshay Kumar ( Garam Masala ).

Rani (‘Black’) finds herself nominated along with Preity Zinta (‘Salaam Namaste’), Urmila Matondkar (‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’), Priyanka Chopra ( Waqt – A Race Against Time ) and Konkana Sen (‘Page 3’) in the Best Actress category.

Nominated in the Best Director category are Shaad Ali
( Bunty Aur Babli ), Ram Gopal Varma (‘Sarkar’), Sanjay Leela Bhansali (‘Black’), Nagesh Kukunoor ( Iqbal ) and Madhur Bhandarkar (‘Page 3’).

Experts will make the final selection of eight editions of the awards and they will be presented at a gala function at the Centre of Excellence in Trinidad on June 10.

"This would be the first time that the Bollywood award function would be held in Trinidad," CEO of Bollywood Awards Kamal Dandona said.
